Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is generally considered safe after the first trimester of pregnancy.  It is a very relaxing treatment and can be adapted to the needs of the client targeting any pregnancy related issues.  Many women view pregnancy massage as a real treat enabling them some 'me time' before the birth of their baby.

The benefits of a pregnancy massage include:-

  • Helps the mother’s ability to relax during the 1st stage of labour often resulting in shorter and easier births, less pain and a lower rate of postnatal complications;

  • Stimulates the circulation;

  • Lymphatic drainage;

  • Releases muscle tension of the upper back, shoulders, lower back and hips, easing the discomfort of Sciatica, prolapsed discs and Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD), often caused by postural change and hormone release;

  • Helps the respiratory system and aids breathing by massaging the intercostal and pectoral muscles;

  • Induces deep relaxation;

  • Aids sluggish bowel movement;

  • Releases compression on the nerves;

  • Helps to avoid varicose veins from developing;

  • Helps to lower or keep high blood pressure balanced;

  • Encourages the release of oxytocin which is a pain reducing hormone.

What to expect at your first Pregnancy Massage:

  • I will contact you prior to your appointment to ask what you would like to get from the treatment.  At this time I will also go through aftercare with you such as drinking plenty of water to rehydrate the body and help flush out the toxins that have been released;

  • You will have already completed a health questionnaire by e-mail in advance of your Pregnancy Massage;

  • You will be made to feel at ease when you arrive;

  • Your privacy will be guaranteed as towels will cover your body and only the area being worked on at the time will be exposed;

  • You will find my treatment to be very peaceful, quiet and totally private.  I will play relaxing music, have ambient lighting and a heated blanket on the massage bed;

  • You can ask me any questions you have;

  • I will advise on how many treatments will ideally be needed.
